Insect Noise!

Been working hard cleaning some things up and finishing all the weapon sounds. The legs and grab will make sound for next release. I’ve also been working a bit on the soundscapes and ambience trying to ensure folks don’t get bored too quick :P Hopefully, I’ll have some location specific sounds in the maps soon and some additional life to the audio.

In other news…I think audio taunts suck :o Here are some idea’s

Don’t mess with us!I got wood!

I also have some more obvious Queen is being attacked sounds…of course I still want text messages so I don’t have to resort to voices. I actually put together some “the queen is dead”…but I hated them so much, I pulled them out. As a gamer, I hold replay value sacred. Annoying, repetitive sounds make for games you don’t want to play over and over. One reason I love Sources ability to pitchshift and add a bunch of randomness to sounds. Try sitting between 2 Aloes with an almost dead queen.

Spiders seem to a popular “insect” (I know, I know) on the boards when folks are lobbying for Alliance members. Here is an interesting video I’ve found about spiders

Spider On Drugs. Make Sure You Watch The Entire Video.

In other news, Termite Grab will make sounds for next release! We’re also thinking about Audio Taunts. I’m a little hesitant as I’m worried about messing up the pastoral sound scape I’ve created, and I’m worried about less mature gamers (you know who you are :P ) spamming the audio taunts and frustrating other players. I meant, when you have voice communication, is there really a need for audio taunts?

That, and if they sound lame…they’ll sound really lame. And without professional voice talent ($$$) there’s a good chance they’ll sound lame. :(

What do you think about Audio Taunts for II?

‘Woohoo…1.07 coming soon. Just finished the playtest. No-one notices the sounds, they’re more interested in voting bugs :o I made a lot of changes to the mix this update, and even turned down certain event music. so I hope you like it. It’s challenging designing sound for a mod like this because no one knows what insects should sound like. I mean…what do insects really sound like? Check this link to find out. I doubt it would sound very good, in game. I’ve also been working on the crumb or resource sounds. This is a typical Narfig moment…
